FFT welcomes football funding
Football Federation Tasmania (FFT) supports the exciting funding announcements made for football on the weekend by the Tasmanian Labor and Tasmanian Liberal parties.
FFT is pleased to see support for community football through promises of funding for much-needed redevelopments.
The Tasmanian Labor party has made a pre-election promise of $2.5 million in funding for FFT’s proposed Cambridge Football Precinct, and the Tasmania Liberal party has also promised pre-election, $200,000 to assist Launceston United in the completion of their new clubroom facilities at Birch Avenue.
Premier and Labor Member for Franklin, Lara Giddings committed $2.5 million towards stage one of FFT’s Cambridge Football Precinct development if re-elected. Labor’s proposed funding would help deliver new artificial pitches and community facilities, as well as providing an administrative home for FFT.
FFT President Sean Collins was delighted to receive Labor’s promise of funding for the Cambridge project, a project that will help address a major mismatch between participation numbers and available facilities for football in the south of the state.
“The Cambridge Precinct will provide a much needed facility for our juniors, who miss games every winter due to inclement weather. The health and social benefits of sport are well known and funding which will provide sporting infrastructure for our juniors is a huge positive.
“Tasmania does not rank well on a host of health indicators, so an initiative which will provide a positive sporting environment to get kids interested and hopefully then continue playing is greatly welcomed.
“It is a project in which FFT have already invested significant time planning and working collaboratively with the Clarence City Council,” said Collins.
“It (Cambridge Football Precinct) will make life easier for parents, particularly for those families with several children, the Cambridge Precinct will create a football hub where all their children’s games will be held at the same location,” added Collins.
The $200,000 injection promised from the Liberal party if elected, will help finish the final stage of Launceston United’s clubroom developments.
