Lions take advantage of depleted Knights outfit

Glenorchy Knights 1

Kingborough Lions 2

Kingborough Lions took advantage of a Glenorchy Knights side missing at least 5 Victory League players defeating the Croatian Club 2-1.

Goals for the Lions came from former Olympia FC midfielder Seung Yong Jin and Danny Cowen, while Jayden Hey continued his solid record from the penalty spot netting Knights only goal.

There would still be some concerns for Knights coach Chris Hey whose side still seems to be undermanned up front.

While Kingborough will be happy to take the win into this week’s Lakoseljac Cup fixture against Beachside FC.

Concerns were high for the Lions when Jin went down during the match after a solid tackle but OTKTB can confirm that Jin has pulled up fine and is back on the training park this week.

“it was great to get that game in before taking on Beachside in the Statewide Cup this weekend and leading up to the first round of VL, it gives the guys a bit of confidence too, getting a result,” stated Cowen.

Cowen who has missed the best part of two months with injury looked to relish his time in the middle “The injury is coming along well, better than expected. Played more of the game than expected and pulled up well so good signs leading up to the season."

South make up for cup early exit against Olympia

South Hobart 4

Olympia FC 1

South Hobart and Olympia FC took advantage of the extra game time playing players from their Development squads and fringe based Victory League players.

South Hobart won 4-1 against the 2014 Summer Cup Champions.

Andy Brennan back from his injury plagued season in the VPL scored a double with Ben Hamlett and Nick Morton scoring one a piece.

Warren Wadawu continued his good preseason form scoring Olympia’s only goal.

Neither side gave much away and it was purely a training run.

“The only way to improve is to play as much as I can, so playing those extra games before the season starts is really important,” stated South Hobart winger Alex Walter.

When asked about his own ambitions this season Walter replied “I'm trying to set my goals as high as possible, so I'm going to try and push for a Victory League position.”

Zebras go through the motions against students

Tilford Zebras 5

University SC 0

Tilford Zebras and Southern Premier League outfit University SC made the most of the week off by giving their squads another hitout before the season proper begins.

Zebras defence was rarely tested and the value of playng such a fixture so close to the season is questionable.

Zebras scorers on the day were: A McKeown, S McGuire og, J Stone, E Engels, A Telega
