Only The Keeper To Beat 12th March 2014 | Page 5

Bates whose known trade is as a defender had a solid game in between the sticks for Eagles and had it not been for a number of brave saves the result could easily have reached double digits.

The second half was much the same as the first with University controlling the play and Eagles trying to catch them out on the break with some speed up front.

The game was all but over when John added his second on the 61st minute mark as the Eagles defence opened up like Moses parting the Red Sea. John received the ball 20 yards from goal and then wondered in to the box before calmly slotting the ball past Bates to make it 3-0.

George Kamano, Aaron Hindmarsh and Jake Undy added to University’s tally before the ninety minutes was up.

University running out winners 6-0, this is with their most dynamic player Luke Huigsloot starting on the bench and playing the majority of the second half only.

In the other Lakoseljac Cup result on the day Clarence United came from 2 nil down to defeat northern based side Riverside Olympic 4-2.

Clarence will now meet Taroona FC at Kelvendon Park on the 22nd March, while Knights will play host to University on the same date.

Prospect Knights were a late withdrawal from the competition giving Nelson Eastern Suburbs an easy path to the Round of 16 where they will face South Hobart.

Prospect now become ineligible to participate in next year's Lakoseljac Cup.
