2014 Objectives :
There has obviously been significant player movement from our squad this year. Our objective is to bring a group of the younger players into the senior squad alongside our experienced girls.
Unfortunately, Brent McKay had to step down as manager a few weeks into pre-season but we were fortunate Scott Gallagher was ready to step in. Scott has a lot of experience, particularly with young and developing players that fits in well with the plans we have.
It will definitely be a more difficult year for us, but we are confident we will remain competitive and push for a place at the top of the table.
New Players Signed:
Casey Clarke (Kingborough Lions), Marion Dunbabin (NTC), Mara Lees (Southern U15), Kimberly Martin (Goal Keeper), Josie Painter (NTC)
Players Lost:
Lilly Trewartha (QLD- work), Brigitte Raymond (Vic-work),Hanna Manuela (Travel), Alice Patterson-
Robert (ACT-uni), Tayla Thomas (work), Daisy Parsell (Vic-uni), Hasia Fraser (work), Gaby Cecile (ACL pre-season).
Players to look out for:
Marion Dunbabin (No 9): quick movement off the ball and ability to score goals
Lisa Bremner (No 7): mobile, strong, instinctive player. One of the best crossers in the game
Sacha Rose (No 10): strong, wins possession in the middle of the park, excellent ball skills and distribution
Order of Finish:
Too hard to call this year due to player movements.
Clarence and Taroona have remained very close to each other over the last few years but both have lost players.
Zebras have continued to improve and have added a few players to their list. Uni will surprise most teams this year and challenge for the top of the table. Knights will need to build on the last couple of years to challenge the rest of the group.
At the end of pre-season, Olympia would appear favourites again but nothing is assured.
I think this year will be the closest we’ve seen for a few years.
