Originally the church was dedicated to Saint
Clemens , patrons of sailors . In 1632 , it was
dedicated to Marije Zdravja because of infectious
epidemics . The lighthouse was restored several
times , and in 1490 it was carefully rebuilt , in 1736 it
was significantly expanded , and in the period from
1773 to 1778 received a large restoration in the
Baroque style in accordance with the design of the
architect Zuang Dongetti . The interior is decorated
with a ceiling plaster with a central scene
representing Love Inside ( Caritas ). In the church
there are three baroque altars from marble Karst ,
the work of Gaspar Albertini . The main altar ( 1779 )
with a remarkable relief . The gift of Jesus in the
temple was decorated on the altar of the present
with the image of Mary with a child and bishops
( the work of Mattei Furlanetta ). The left side altar
( 1789 ) is dedicated to St . Francis Paul , and directly
to St . John . Aloji Gonzaga ( 1794 ) with the image of
St . Tomaž i sv . Aloysius ( presumably Matteo
Furlanetto ). The church was richly equipped with
church equipment and numerous vows . The last
facade is built into a mighty rondole , built in 1506 .
The belltower was rebuilt several times , and its last
form was in the middle of the 19th century in the
Neo - Gothic style with a round plan and precise
height , as required by the Austrian military
authorities ( 40 feet ).
The complex of the church , the rundele and the
lighthouse is united in one . It served both the
religious needs of the inhabitants of Piran , and an
important point of defense and seamen - beacons .
The roofing roof was repaired several years ago with
the help of donors . Currently , the church is in the
stage of restorative interventions , due to moisture
and emptying on the plaster it must be regularly
repaired . All equipment , including photographs ,
was temporarily deposited in a safe place .
