Located in the heart of the old city - this is a
real gem of the city ’ s history .
The Renaissance building from the end of the
16th century is located right on the old
market square . With its beautiful facade and
tower , it resembles a small castle . These
curved gables adorning the decoration of the
roof contribute to this impression . The special
charm of the building is provided by
unpainted brick walls , the reddish color of
which harmoniously fits into the facades of
the above - mentioned outbuildings .
Over time , the town hall in Düsseldorf was
repeatedly restored and expanded . So today ,
next to the five - story tower , a portal appeared
in the rococo style , over which a balcony
perched . Among other things , a new town hall
and additional administrative buildings were
added , so now the building consists of five
wings and extends to the banks of the Rhine .
Even today it serves as the seat of the city
council and municipal administration of
Düsseldorf .
Thanks to the carnival , this famous
construction has long been known outside the
country . Right in front of the town hall , in the
middle of the square , is the famous equestrian
monument dedicated to the elector Jan
Velleme .
