The community strengthens their faith . Until 1918 , the church served simultaneously as a court and parish church . The air raid on Dresden on February 13 , 1945 severely destroyed the building . From June 1945 , the Holy Mass was celebrated in Bennockapel , later in the left aisle . In 1962 , the main parish could be used again . In 1980 , the Hofkirche was erected in the cathedral of the Dresden - Meissen Diocese . Gaetano Chiavery built this unique work of art from 1739 to 1751 in the style of late Roman baroque . The clients were Frederick Augustus II , the son of Augustus the Strong , and his wife Maria Joseph . While the external form of the sculptor Lorenzo Mattielli emphasizes Chiavery ’ s concept of great vitality and diversity , the interior of the church is simple . No ceiling paintings and colored marble . This , however , emphasizes the architecture of the arch with a stream of light . Three of the beautifully decorated corner chapels were almost completely restored . The exception is the chapel dedicated to the memory of the victims in World War II . Frederick Press created the Drink , a picture of the Mother of God , Mary . The pulpit , the place of proclaiming the Good News of God , is the work of the great Baroque sculptor Balthazar Permoser . Statues of the beaten Christ and the fathers of the church Ambrose and Augustine also come from him . Under the church is the tomb in which the Catholic members of the electoral and later royal houses of Wettin are buried . A capsule with the heart of Augustus the Strong is also stored here . Bishops of the Dresden - Meissen Diocese are also buried in the crypt of the bishop under the church .
