SCHLOSSSTRASSE 24,
Here , Christians celebrate the Holy Mass for 250 years .
In prayer , they seek the nearness of God . The
community strengthens their faith .
Until 1918 , the church served simultaneously as a court
and parish church . The air raid on Dresden on February
13 , 1945 severely destroyed the building . From June
1945 , the Holy Mass was celebrated in Bennockapel ,
later in the left aisle . In 1962 , the main parish could be
used again . In 1980 , the Hofkirche was erected in the
cathedral of the Dresden - Meissen Diocese .
Gaetano Chiavery built this unique work of art from
1739 to 1751 in the style of late Roman baroque . The
clients were Frederick Augustus II , the son of Augustus
the Strong , and his wife Maria Joseph .
While the external form of the sculptor Lorenzo
Mattielli emphasizes Chiavery ’ s concept of great vitality
and diversity , the interior of the church is simple . No
ceiling paintings and colored marble . This , however ,
emphasizes the architecture of the arch with a stream
of light .
Three of the beautifully decorated corner chapels were
almost completely restored . The exception is the chapel
dedicated to the memory of the victims in World War II .
Frederick Press created the Drink , a picture of the
Mother of God , Mary .
The pulpit , the place of proclaiming the Good News of
God , is the work of the great Baroque sculptor
Balthazar Permoser . Statues of the beaten Christ and
the fathers of the church Ambrose and Augustine also
come from him .
Under the church is the tomb in which the Catholic
members of the electoral and later royal houses of
Wettin are buried . A capsule with the heart of Augustus
the Strong is also stored here . Bishops of the Dresden -
Meissen Diocese are also buried in the crypt of the
bishop under the church .
