5 TRENDS TO TRY this Winter! by Sam & Jordi Woods A lot of our clients that are 50+ or at retirement age often don’t require a huge wardrobe of items but rather, some quality pieces that can be updated each season. Breathing new life into wardrobe staples like; a tailored jacket, well cut pants, skirts that flatter and an array of tops and knitwear is both economical and practical. However, it can create a “uniform” style that leaves one feeling boring and outdated. The style balance required here is one where fashion meets functionality. To achieve a functionally-fashionable wardrobe each season new key colours, shapes and accessories need to be added. So what is trending this winter? LOTS of colour, fun prints consisting of spots and dots, animal prints (of every kind) and new look plaids and checks. BUT most of all this winter is about “clashing” them all together! Yes, mixing spots with checks, animal prints with dots and colours that are deep and dark, soft and delicate or every shade of neutral you can imagine. How to update your basic items 1. Gather your basic items that you love (and love you back!). Yes, what fits well, is in good condition and can be utilised as the start of your outfit. If you have none then guess what you will be shopping for first! 2. Now put them in colour groups. 3. Assess what your key colours are and have a play with mixing them together. 4. Make a list of what you feel you may need to complete some outfits eg. a new check unstructured, relaxed style jacket. 5. Head to the shops and be thrifty! Look for 5 items that will instantly update your existing pieces to make them look refreshed, modern and on trend. 26 S EN I O R S O N T H E C OA S T What is trending & 10 things that will instantly update your wardrobe? ƒ ƒ A relaxed “boyfriend style” jacket – perfect for day to dinner when a dressier look is required ƒ ƒ Statement print piece – animal, spots, dots, checks ƒ ƒ New neutral items – the new black, neutral tones are giving winter style a lighter and softer feel ƒ ƒ Cross body bag – fabulous for carrying essential.
