Gardening

by Vickey Taylor
A
utumn is our favourite
time of the year because
although there’s still some hot
weather around, the hottest
weather is now behind us and
it’s the best time of the year to
be in the garden.
It’s a great time to plant as anything
planting now will have 6 months to
establish themselves before the hot
weather returns. There are also lots to
harvest still in vegie patches and fruit
orchards.
Garlic Planting Time
It’s time to plant one of our favourite
things. A tip from the grower, wait until
the cloves have started to shoot before
you plants and be courageous with
planting depth. The depth you plant
will be equal to the diameter of your
harvested bulbs will be. So if the bottom
of the clove is 5cm from the surface, the
bulb you harvest will be 5cm across. A
Rough theory.
Beautiful Bulbs
If you haven’t grown bulbs before it’s
time you did and discover the beauty
of winter and spring flowering bulbs.
They’re easy to grow and give a great
burst of colour throughout the garden
