Arlesey W.I. A rlesey Medical Centre was previously owned and controlled by the Bedfordshire Primary Care Trust. In April 2009 an application was made to NHS Bedfordshire to run the Medical Centre as a social enterprise. The application was successful and a new Community Interest Company (CIC), Sunnyhill Healthcare, was awarded the contract starting on 1st April 2011. A CIC is a not-for-profit organisation that strives to provide a local service that is self-sufficient, relevant and responsive to local needs and is answerable to local stakeholders. Members are owners of the CIC and all Medical Centre Staff are members of Sunnyhill Healthcare CIC. Sunnyhill is run with 4 employee (Executive) directors (Dr Attias, Dr Holt, Richard Stead and Maureen Walker) and 2 patient (non-executive) Director (Dr Cyrille West and Dr Sam Ward). Cyrille is the current Chair of the board of Director, with Sam as Vice-Chair. Any patient aged 16 and over who has been registered at the surgery for a minimum of 2 years may apply to become a Stakeholder of the CIC. The Stakeholder Group meets every quarter with the Board of Directors to discuss a range of issues affecting the surgery, and also to consider what additional services could be offered (or withdrawn). Our next meeting is on Monday March 25th 2013, 8pm in Arlesey Resource Centre & Library. If you would like to get involved and help the surgery continue to develop to meet the needs of our local community please contact: Dr Cyrille West c.west@taylorwessing Dr Sam Ward [email protected] Richard Stead [email protected] Walk4Health Walk4Health has been running for nearly 9 years, weekly on Thursdays at 10.45. We have a set of 12 walks which cover Arlesey and Stotfold and usually between 20 to 30 people attend. All the leaders are trained Health Walk Leaders and have 1st Aid Certificates. This year has been quite a challenge with the walks due to the wet weather which has made some of the footpaths and fields impassable with mud or standing water, but we have mostly managed to get around these by diverting our walks around the local roads in the areas. There is no charge to come on these walks and to a lot of people who live alone they enjoy the company and getting out and about across the fields and paths which they may not walk if they are alone. We always have a Christmas lunch in December and a summer lunch in June or July in a local pub. We have only cancelled 2 walks during the nine years we have been organising them, one due to very high winds and recently due to the snow and icy conditions on the footpaths. If you have not been on one of the walks do come and give it a try, the dates and meeting points are always in the local papers or phone 01462 638286 for more information. Dates for walks in March are as follows:• March 7 and 14th ~ Scout Hut, Baldock Road, Stotfold • March 21 and 28th ~ The Crown PH, The Green, Stotfold Walks start at 10.45 am.
