Traveller site Approved
Central Beds Council has agreed an application for a new traveller site
at Twin Acres in Hitchin Road. The decision was made by the Planning
Committee at their Chicksands offices on 21st November. The vote was
even with 9 for and 9 against, but was voted through by the committee
chairman using his casting vote. In a unusual move the committee had
re-arranged the application from number 12 on the agenda to number
one. Was this a deliberate stunt – trying to catch out the public from
attending this controversial meeting.
Residents had already complained that the Stop Notices applied by
CBC on the site had not been adhered to, and that Central Beds had not
enforced these notices.
Arlesey Residents Association Chairman, Hugh Harper lobbied
members of the committee beforehand, and also spoke at the meeting
stating this was not part of the LDF agreement and that Arlesey already
has its quota of pitches. Trying to impress on the committee that this
was not acceptable to residents. Around 500 letters of objection had
been handed to CBC previous to the meeting along with sending emails,
making phone calls and posting objections online, but these objections
were ignored and the application was agreed for 5 pitches – this equates
to 10 caravans.
Residents are now fearful works will escalate unchecked, along with
the original site at 197 Hitchin Road.
Arlesey Nursery School
Arlesey Nursery School and Childcare Centre are looking forward to a busy
month – Nativity plays, parties, visits from Father Christmas (if the children
are good!), Carol singing for the elderly, taking part in the Christmas tree
festival at the church . . . and then it’s Christmas!
We look forward to welcoming new families into the Nursery in
the New Year – there are still places available if you have not already
registered with us.
