LDF Consultation starts
The consultation opened on Saturday 9th November at the Village Hall
with a second date on the 16th December. Plans were on display and
representatives on-hand to answer questions on the proposed development
for the north of the town. This is the presentation of the Draft Masterplan
Document with feedback and amendments made before a final Masterplan
to be adopted in March 2014 (date to be confirmed). The plans will be on
display for a four week period at the Village Hall in the foyer. Comments and
questionnaires should be sent in to Central Beds Council by 16th December.
Russell Gray from consultants Woods Hardwick said after Saturday 9th
“There were upwards of 250 people, which having carried out exhibitions in
various locations, including elsewhere in Central Beds, is a very good turnout”.
“In terms of feedback, there were wide ranging views expressed, but in
general comments were constructive in nature”.
The plans show the areas in question for the development of 1000+
houses plus amenities. Questionnaires were available for residents to fill
in and submit their views on the expansion plans. Copies of the plans and
questionnaire can be found on the Arlesey Cross website:
www.arleseycross.co.uk/news
Members of the Voice of Arlesey were also in the foyer of the Village Hall
asking residents, if they felt informed about the consultation on the proposed
development. By the end of the Saturday a total of 900 signatures had been
collected in support of these statements. It is hoped that they can be used
to evidence a need for the Arlesey community to play a greater role in the
future shaping of the masterplan.
Timescale
The next stage of the consultation is to assess feedback from the
questionnaires and changes will be made to the Masterplan Document.
In February/March the document will be reported to CBC’s committees.
In March 2014 there will be another Public Consultation for Planning
Applications and Design Codes.
MP Alistair Burt attends
consultation
MP Alistair Burt was at the Village Hall asking CBC representatives
questions on the masterplan and talking with residents. Mr Burt gave
‘on the button’ a statement about the consultation:
“I was pleased to visit the public exhibition at the Village Hall last
Saturday. It gave me the chance to talk to Councillors from CBC and
the Town, to CBC Officers and to residents with a variety of views. The
path of the relief road, traffic impact generally and concerns about the
western part of the development seemed uppermost, as well as some
objections to the principle of development and consultation practice. I
listened carefully to all.
I have to say I have been aware of these proposals for many years
as it has been a long term ambition of the town council to see Arlesey
expand and use the development for wider benefit, including traffic
relief. The plans have been through the statutory procedures as far
as I can see. So I do not think it likely that outright objection to the
principle of development, and demands for it to be overturned on
grounds of inadequate consultation, would be upheld.
But the sense that there should now be greater community
involvement alongside those legally responsible for decisions seems
a good idea. It is right that the development should be well designed
and take into consideration newcomers and long term residents and I
will support such efforts to develop a good forum.
There will need to be goodwill and openness as well as an
ability to compromise on all sides and ultimately the legal planning
authority has to make decisions. I do hope Arlesey’s development will
demonstrate the best of such intentions”.
