Arlesey still sees its fair share of steam locomotives as they travel
up or down the main line through the town. The Bittern is a frequent
visitor as the image on the right shows – on Monday 17th June the
A4 class locomotive made its way south and then back north again
to join an exhibition at the National Railway Museum in York.
The exhibition was to celebrate 75 years since The Mallard broke
the record of 126mph along the East Coast Main Line near
Grantham. The Bittern joined The Mallard, Sir Nigel Gresley, Union
of South Africa, Dwight D Eisenhower, and Dominion of Canada,
for the exhibition in July this year.

25 years of the ‘new’ station
On October the 1st the ‘new’ Arlesey station will be 25 years old. Next month we would like to publish some pictures from the station opening. Below are a
couple of images that have been sent to us so far. So do you have any pictures of the opening, travelling on the first trains after the opening or even the party
