Office of the President
Montevideo, Uruguay, is home to the least-reached urban population in
Latin America. We thank God for One Mission Society missionaries John
and Lisa Hamilton and Gail Leroy, who serve faithfully in this needy capital
city. On our recent visit, Esther and I personally met believers in whom they
have invested much.
We also recently visited Brazil. In 1960, less than 0.003 percent of Brazilians
followed Jesus. Today, more than 25 percent know and follow him. What
amazing growth we’ve witnessed in less than six decades! Many Brazilian
missionaries now serve cross culturally around the globe, with an evangeli-
cal missionary force of more than 4,000 people. CONIM, the OMS-founded
denomination in Brazil, is part of that force and has joined in partnership
with the Billion.Global Vision in an effort to give to at least one billion people
the opportunity to hear, understand, and believe the Good News of Jesus
by 2026.
I give thanks for all of our missionaries and national coworkers pouring
out their lives in countries throughout Latin America and the Caribbean, in
nations like Colombia and Cuba, where the ministry is growing, and in those
like Uruguay and Venezuela, where the people are less responsive.
We hope you enjoy and are challenged by the articles in this issue of
OMS Outreach Online, which focus on our ministries in the Latin world.
