Proclaiming the
Gospel in Korea
By Rev. Jeong-Ho Ryu, General Superintendent
of the Korea Evangelical Holiness Church
Since its inception, the
Korea Evangelical Holiness
Church (KEHC) has focused
on reaching the multitudes
for Christ, beginning with
a village campaign in 1918.
The campaign formed local itinerant evan-
gelism teams, market evangelism teams,
and teams preaching the Gospel to women
involved in Confucianism. (In the Confucian
society of Korea, all women were subordinate
to and separated from men, so there were
teams of “Bible women” set up to share the
Gospel with women.) With the goal of reach-
ing every city dweller and villager throughout
Korea with the Gospel message, Korean be-
lievers and OMS missionaries collaborated
to witness much fruit, including seeing peo-
ple “immediately kneeling in the streets and
coming to faith in Jesus,” according to Bridge
