Patricia (Pat) Ike and her husband
Les, after serving in the pastorate for
several years, sailed with their two
daughters for Japan in June 1954.
During their first year, they added
a son to their family. In Japan, Pat
enthusiastically hosted short-term missionaries.
She also trained young people
for a lifetime of service in Japan. After five
years in Japan, the Ikes returned to the U.S.,
where they served at OMS World Headquarters
until their retirement in 1984.
Ruth Madeira and her husband Eugene
applied to OMS in 1953. They served in Ecuador
and Colombia until a serious illness in the
family brought them back to the U.S. They then
served as OMS northeast regional representatives
for the next three years. Ruth and Gene
concluded their service with OMS in 1966, but
in 2014, Colombian nationals, to whom they had
witnessed 50 years previously, showed them how
the work they did had transformed lives.
Phyllis (Steiner) McCoy enrolled at Asbury
Seminary where she met Paul McCoy, and the two
were married in August 1948. After preparing for
overseas service for several years, the McCoys
served as missionaries in Congo for two years.
Phyllis’ passion for missions then brought
her to OMS as a regional director in 1966.
Later, she served with the World Intercessors
Department at the OMS World Headquarters in
Greenwood, Indiana.
Bonnie (Jacobson) McGill visited Asia
in 1977, and while in Taiwan, Bonnie met
Tim McGill, a Taiwan missionary kid (MK).
The two were married the following
year and applied to serve with OMS
in Taiwan in 1980. During her 36
years in Taiwan, Bonnie served at
Morrison Academy, teaching MKs
and Chinese children, and she and
Tim also served as dorm parents. In
recent years, she served as recruiting
director and director of Human Services.
