A critically important task in serving a church is training its leaders. While Dave and Cindy were in leadership of the Hong Kong field, the United Wesleyan Graduate Institute started. From 2001 to the present, UWGI has been training pastors and lead- ers for churches in Hong Kong and be- yond. Three educational institutions (UCC, ICS, and UWGI) have all made significant contributions to Hong Kong and to God’s kingdom among the Chinese people. The Aufrances’ work in churches has been with the Hong Kong Evangelical Church, which was founded in the shadow of Communist China and has continued to serve faithfully even after Hong Kong returned to China’s sovereignty in 1997. Dave and Cindy have walked and prayed through many trials and victories with the members of these churches. More recently, they started RiverGrace International Christian Fellowship, a ministry to the in- ternational community, including Filipino domestic helpers, refugees, and asylum seekers from various countries. Pastor Tommy Hui (see page 15), a former stu- dent of Dave’s and a graduate of UWGI, is expected to become the head pastor of RiverGrace. He writes, “The Aufrances are like our parents, and they always think of us first and put themselves last. For these two and a half years that I have been serving them, they have been a role model for me. I am learning many things from them. They are good leaders, good pastors, and good spiritual parents.” Cindy’s ministry has moved from the school classroom to life’s classroom, counseling and praying with those who have experienced brokenness and bring- ing them to healing and restoration. This desire to bring wholeness and heart transformation into people’s lives resulted from a vision God gave Cindy and others to begin a Christian counseling center in Hong Kong, Hub and Spokes International, where she serves as a pastoral care spe- cialist and prayer minister. Other work, such as outreach to the vast number of Filipino domestic work- ers in Hong Kong, could be added to this list. We can simply say, God brought the nations to Dave and Cindy, and they responded in obedience as they reach those nations through many ministries. And we have no doubt that God will re- spond to them with, “Well done, thy good and faithful servants.” On behalf of many, many missionaries, pastors, church members, students, and others, thank you, Dave and Cindy. You have loved the Lord and have loved us as well. We have all been blessed by your faithful service and friendship. 17
