Government Unveils Ambitious Tourism Growth Plan Towards 2027
The Government of Kenya has set out an ambitious roadmap to position tourism as a central pillar of economic transformation, targeting a 10 per cent contribution to GDP by 2027 and growing international and domestic tourist arrivals to 5.5 million visitors annually.
The plan, articulated under the leadership of President William Ruto, builds on momentum from the 2025 Jamhuri Day celebrations, where tourism was elevated as a national development priority and recognised as a key driver of jobs, foreign exchange, and inclusive growth.
Tourism currently contributes over KSh 452 billion annually to the economy and supports more than three million jobs, directly and indirectly. The sector remains one of Kenya ' s leading foreign-exchange earners and a cornerstone of livelihoods across the country. Speaking on the Government ' s vision, President Ruto emphasised the need to reposition Kenya ' s global tourism brand beyond traditional offerings.
“ We must market the complete Kenya story— from our technological innovation to our athletic excellence, from the Cradle of Humankind to our more than 40 vibrant communities,” the President said.
