Tobago 8 for Trade Convention ETHICS TRAINING FOR RESEARCHERS Better research, better health care. That’s how Secretary of Health, Wellness and Family Development Dr. Agatha Carrington is leading the island’s approach to health. It’s the reason a Research Ethics Committee has been established to enhance the current efforts in this area. It’s also the inspiration behind a three-day Research Ethics Training Workshop at the Scarborough General Hospital, which began yesterday (July 3). The workshop is being hosted in Eight entrepreneurs will represent Tobago at the upcoming Trade and Investment Convention at the Centre of Excellence in Trinidad. The Convention, which is hosted annually by the Trinidad and Tobago Manufacturers Association (TTMA), starts Thursday (July 6), and runs until Sunday (July 9). The event allows regional companies of various sizes to showcase their products and services in one location, and network in search of opportunities for trade and investment. The participants selected by the Business Development Unit (BDU) are: Savour De Isle, Pinkberri Kosmetique, Osanie Designs, Schel’s Simple Solutions, Cee Wee Designs, Cooper S. Productions, Tobago Media Concepts and Chenseya’s Fishing Services. The Eco-Industrial Development Company of Tobago Ltd (E-IDCOT) will also participate in the convention, which will feature over 200 booths, and more than 500 regional and international buyers. collaboration with the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA). The training will deepen the knowledge of medical staff, especially on the ethical review of research proposals involving humans, human tissue and human data. “We expect that the quality of our work in research will improve,” Dr. Carrington said. In all, 25 people are participating in the workshop, including representatives from the University of Trinidad and Tobago and the University of the Southern Caribbean.
