Chloe Griggs ( 11-18 ) is a teacher of Latin at Harrogate Ashville where children in Years 7 and 8 are learning Latin again for the first time in years . Chloe who graduated from Durham University with a degree in Classics in 2021 , did her PGCE at Cambridge University before starting her teaching career at Leeds Grammar and now Ashville . Chloe said “ My passion for Latin started at Pocklington where I studied the subject from Year 7 right through to A level . I hope I can inspire students in the same way my Latin teachers inspired me when I was at school . Mr Andrews in particular has been pivotal in me following this path .”
Tom Hitchenor ( 11-13 ) started a new job this year as a consultant with global executive search firm , HW Global . Tom works within interim solutions specifically within the Finance sector across the North East and North West . Tom studied Business Management at Manchester Metropolitan University before starting his career in sales and business development . He has industry wide experience working across multiple sectors in private , plc and private equity backed businesses .
Maddie Hourigan ( 12-19 ), having obtained First Class honours in Ancient History from Durham University earlier this summer , has now embarked on a master ’ s degree in Classics at the prestigious University of Cambridge .
Charlie Laverack ( 08-19 ) has joined the Greater Manchester Combined Authority as a Graduate Surveyor seconded to Trafford Council . Alongside his role , he will be studying at the University of Salford to gain a postgraduate diploma in Real Estate and Land Management . Charlie graduated from Northumbria University in July 2023 with a degree in Business and Marketing Management .
Harry Lawton ( 04-12 ) is a chartered surveyor working in commercial real estate in London for global firm Avison Young . He joined the firm in June 2022 as an Associate Director and was promoted to Director of Occupier Solutions in January 2024 . Harry did a degree in Real Estate Management at Oxford Brookes University before joining the Capita and GL Hearn graduate scheme . After qualifying , he moved to CBRE as a surveyor and then senior surveyor before joining Avison Young .
Serena Leach ( 05-12 ), a chartered surveyor , started a new position in September 2023 as Associate Director at property consultancy firm , Ardent . Serena gained a BSc ( Hons ) in Real Estate at Reading University in 2015 before joining Carter Jonas as a graduate surveyor . She has since held several positions at both Carter Jonas and Bidwells before moving to Ardent .
Amy Owen ( 13-18 ) recently completed a master ’ s degree in forensic psychology at Manchester Metropolitan University , earning a Distinction . She has started a new role as a National Probation
Service Case Administrator for HM Prison and Probation Service in Greater Manchester . Amy also has a passion for academic research , having co-authored a journal manuscript with colleagues from the University of Salford and the United States , which is currently awaiting publication approval . In 2022 , Amy was also honoured with the Student Achievement Award for Psychology Programmes at the University of Salford for her undergraduate Psychology degree . With her First Class honours , Amy achieved the highest level of academic excellence across the six undergraduate psychology programmes within the faculty .
James Reckitt ( 10-12 ), a York-based barrister , has recently joined Trinity Chambers as a tenant in their thriving Business & Property team handling cases from the North Eastern Circuit and beyond . Following Sixth Form at Pocklington , James graduated in 2015 with First Class honours in Law from the University of York . He then embarked on his legal career initially working as a Legal Assistant at Stamp Jackson & Procter before being called to the Bar in 2016 . James completed his pupillage at Dere Street Barristers achieving his lifelong ambition of becoming a barrister .
Mark Ronan ( 08-18 ), former headmaster of Pocklington School , has been appointed as the new rector of Hutchesons ’ Grammar School starting in August 2024 . With a distinguished career in education and headship in schools around the world , Mark left Pocklington School in 2018 after a decade of leadership to take on his current role as headmaster of The King ’ s Hospital School in Dublin . His return to Scotland , where he began his teacher training at Moray House in Edinburgh and where his family and wife originate , is eagerly anticipated . In a recent interview with The Herald , Mark Ronan expressed his enthusiasm for this new position and his commitment to the growth and success of the school .
Neola Thorpe ( 10-19 ) spent five years at Northumbria University , which included a year of practical industry experience with Balfour Beatty . She graduated with a Master ’ s in Civil Engineering , achieving a first class . In August 2024 , Neola began her career as a full-time quality advisor for Balfour Beatty in the Power Transmission and Distribution sector .
Dan Williams ( 03-10 ) joined Abatable as Head of Engineering this year . The London-based firm provides a carbon procurement and market intelligence platform to help businesses offset their carbon footprint . After leaving Pocklington , Dan did a master ’ s in integrated mechanical & electrical engineering at the University of Bath before starting his career in the software engineering and technology consulting sector .
2020 - PRESENT
In his third year at the University of Glasgow , Hedley Benn-Harris ( 17-21 ) was awarded an academic scholarship to pursue Accounting and Finance at The Culverhouse College of Business located at The University of Alabama . While there , he concentrated on American Finance , Tax , Investments and Real Estate under the tutelage of professors including John Heinz , a co-founder of Value Investor Media . Hedley excelled academically and made the Dean ’ s List , in addition to being invited to join the National Society of Collegiate Scholars which is an incredible honour and prestigious accolade .
In addition to his studies , Hedley played rugby and was part of the Men ’ s University Rugby Club Roster , which was a Division One programme . Competing in the both the Southern College Rugby Conference and National College Rugby , the team travelled to various states such as the University of Kentucky , Louisiana State University and Kennesaw State University , to compete against top universities .
Reflecting on his experience , Hedley hopes to inspire others to consider studying abroad and is thankful for the tremendous opportunity , education , friendships and memories gained during his time at The Culverhouse College of Business .
Henry Kay ( 13-21 ) is on his year abroad in Argentina as part of his History and Spanish degree at Magdalen College , Oxford . For the first part of the year , Henry worked as an English Language Assistant in Madrid helping students aged 10 to18 to improve their English-speaking skills . Following this , he went on a study exchange in Buenos Aires , living with Argentines in a student residence which gave him plenty of opportunity to practise his language skills . As well as the capital , he got to know other areas in the region , including the Iguazú Falls on Argentina ’ s boarder with Brazil .
Freya Stewart ( 12-20 ) graduated from Durham University with First Class honours in English Literature . She spent a ski season in Meribel and then enjoyed travelling during the summer before starting her new job in October as an Associate Consultant at specialist recruitment firm Jove International in London .
