The

PRESIDENT ’ S VIEW

WELCOME
Dear OPs , A very warm welcome to the 2020 OP magazine .
In these extraordinary times , I hope that you and your family are well . The last few months have been a really strange experience for all of us , but spare a thought for those overseas students who have recently joined our OP community and had to quarantine for up to a month in different places before being allowed home .
Also , for all our students who face an uncertain future . If you are able to offer support to our younger OPs and sixth-form students with insight visits , writing CVs , job applications , finding out more about university courses , etc ., then please do contact Rachel in the OP office and consider joining the Pocklington School Careers & Business Network if you are not a member already . In her speech at the “ virtual ” Prizegiving event , Head Girl Hebe Quinney mentioned the “ sense of community and togetherness which really sets Pock apart from other schools ”, a view that I ’ m sure many of us share . Indeed , this engagement and willingness to help each other may become even more important in the coming years .
The OP community is vibrant , despite the enforced cancellation of many events in recent months . Hopefully some planned year-group reunions will still take place at a later date . I would like to conclude by thanking all the committee members for their support , in particular Eszti Pontone ( nee Gyamarti , 95-97 ) for her excellent work as Treasurer , and Rachel Dare for her continued dedication as Secretary , ably assisted by Leanne Maycock .
Take care , stay safe and always embrace the “ Spirit of Pock ”!
Best wishes to you all ,
Trevor Loten ( 70-80 ) President , Old Pocklingtonian Association
