SCOTT EVANS
eff Knowlton was born in Bellflower California , July 27 , 1962 . His family moved back to Arkansas when he was two weeks old . He calls Manila his hometown .
He started taking interest in music at an early age . The first song he remembers hearing was The Battle of New Orleans , “ I was sitting on my dad ' s lap on the front porch and he sang it to me .”
Knowlton got his first guitar at the age of seven . “ Dad paid two dollars at a second hand store . That started my path to music and song writing . By the time I was nine , I met two wonderful people that would become like my second mom and dad , Leon and Rose Lindsey . Rose played guitar and grew up with the Wilburn brothers in north central Arkansas and Leon had done some work with Lefty Frizzell in the late forties and early fifties . His playing gave me the desire to play fiddle . Leon told me when I learned one song on my own he would give me lessons . My first song on the fiddle was “ Bile them Cabbage .” Once I played that song for Leon , I told him I was ready to start my lessons . His reply was , I have taught you everything you need : practice and determination . He did show me a lot of things , but I learned more by listening to him and watching .”
“ I started trying to write songs , around the age of ten , and all through my life I

have been surrounded with music and song writing . Through my teen years I was a member of many different bands . My whole life was surrounded with old time musicians and I was introduced to several of the grand old Opry stars that would come through our area of the country and play the high schools and local theaters ,” Knowlton added .
“ After graduation , I joined Southern Express and toured with Riley Lee Finley . I got to do some shows with Jim and Jon Hager and also Charlie Louvin . Though out the years I have been blessed to front and play with several country and bluegrass artists . The greatest blessings are my children ; all of them play music . Over the last few years I have been able to write with and pass down the songs I have written to my youngest son : Tom Knowlton of the Fretliners has recorded some of my original work .”
“ I no longer play on the road or travel but music is still a big part of my life and I still write . I am a pastor of a small country church about six miles from my hometown of Manila . My wife Jessica and I have been there going on eight years and we are happy serving the Lord and I still write in my spare time . I do love to sing and play in church . When I can make a bluegrass festival or community event and perform it is a blessing .”
