Gladiator Two hit the theaters November 22 , 2024 . This movie was beloved by some and despised by others . Personally , I think it was a work of art , however , not all art follows the rubric . While Gladiator Two was a great movie , it did stray from the original history . The emperors Geta and Caracalla co-ruled for less than a year before Caracalla had Geta killed , a fact the movie got right . The movie fails to mention an interesting fact : Geta and Caracalla were not to be in the same room together unless their mother was there along with their guards because the fear of assassination was so strong .
Macrinus had nothing to do with the death of Geta by Caracalla . Macrinus was also not a slave originally , but was born a low equestrian rank , and educated as a lawyer . He moved his way up the cursus honorum until he was praetorian prefect of Geta and Caracalla . After the death of Geta in history , Macrinus arranged the death of Caracalla . He was killed while doing his business on the side of a road .
Gladiator Two had Dundus the pet monkey as Caracalla ’ s best friend and even consul for a brief moment . This did not happen in history , although it is rumored that Caracalla tried to make his horse consul . This is something Caligula is rumored to have attempted to do as well . A few characters in Gladiator Two are , unfortunately , completely made up . General Acacius was not a real person , and while Lucius Verus Aurelius II was real , he died young , never becoming a gladiator .
