It’s Just A Way of JCLife
Lynn Ahrens, NJCL Communications Coordinator
I know it seems like forever ago, but I still have yet to let go of last
summer’s national convention at Troy University. Never have I felt so
undeserving of the unprecedented passion and enthusiasm that Ohio pours
out to the nation every year. Never have I felt so encapsulated by love for
my second family. Never have I felt so proud to call myself an Ohioan.
Words truly cannot reveal just how much I owe everything to you,
the people of the best JCL delegation. It was an honor and a blessing to
meet and bond with you, representing all regions of our wonderful state.
Even though the campaign consumed a lot of my time at convention, each
and every one of you supported me like you had known me for forever,
and I will never forget that. I loved laughing with you at 2 in the morning,
running through the sprinklers after fellowship, and losing my voice from
all of the incredible cheers we made together. Truthfully, I cried a lot at the
prospect of saying goodbye countless times throughout the week. I’m so
proud of all that you do, Ohio, from having the hottest commodities at
agora to dominating Ludi to slaying the academic tests to sweeping graphic
arts, and, most of all, to THRIVING.
“Audentes Fortuna iuvat.” Fortune favors the bold.
Now that state convention is quickly approaching, I can’t urge you
more to come take part in all of the festivities. I can’t urge you more to get
out of your comfort zone, to meet new people that understand your
struggle in translating The Aeneid or answering the infinite questions about
why you take a dead language. I can’t urge you more to be brave, to
challenge yourself, to try new things. After all, that’s what we’re all here
for, right?
Be bold, OJCLers, and I can’t wait to see you at States :)
E corde,
Lynn Ahrens
