Mushaben 38 McAuley Latin went out with a bang this year at state convention! Overall, our JClers won over 100 awards, club contests, academic tests, and projects! McAuley Latin Club finished as the top all-girls school for the thirteenth year in a row! We finished third in points per capita, and we won the most club points! We won gold medals for banner, club project, club service, scrapbook, and publication! We also won spirit for medium-sized schools. Among the many ribbons we won, two students finished in the Top 10 overall: Ellie Kammerer finished 5th and Katlyn Havlin finished 8th! Our Certamen teams also made us very proud: Latin I finished 8th overall, Latin II finished 6th, and Upper finished 9th. We are also extremely proud of Katlyn Havlin, who was elected OJCL Treasurer! She worked diligently leading up to convention, and the whole time she was there. Ellie Kammerer finished out her term as OJCL Historian this year. Recently, McAuley has celebrated Foreign Language Week with our three languages French, Latin, and Spanish. This year’s theme was Spread Your Wings: Learn a New Language! There was a butterfly coloring contest, and th e winners received some yummy Easter candy. We also held a Foreign Language Week Coin War between the three languages; pennies counted for your language’s score, and any silver coins put in opposing languages’ jars counted against their score. Unfortunately, Spanish beat us by a long shot, but all proceeds went to helping the monarch butterflies! Coming up is our next club meeting, where we will be talking about Nationals this summer! We’re hoping to have a bigger participation this year since it’s so close to home. We’ll also be making cards for the elderly. McAuley Latin Club has had a wonderful run in the OJCL, and we ended on a high note. We’re excited to continue next year as Mercy McAuley, and we can’t wait to see how things go!
