This past year has been a year of tremendous
growth and organizational complexity for the
Sycamore Latin Club. In the weeks leading up to
convention, we had much to do, so we created
committees of dedicated JCLers devoted to
managing an aspect of convention preparation. One
committee, led by up-and-coming freshman Ashna
Prakesh, took charge of creating cheers and signs
for the spirit competitions. The “Theme”
committee, led by Juniors Emma Murphy and Josh
Williams, came up with ideas for each theme day
and gathered the supplies we needed. We even had a
committee dedicated to repairing the infamous
Sycamore Fungus!
The 68th OJCL convention was a success in
many ways for the emboldened Sycamore Latin
Club. This year, 31 students, 2 sponsors, and 2
chaperones attended. That’s more than twice the
size of last year’s delegation of 14 attendees! The
talented members of our club won awards in many
categories, such as Graphic Arts and testing. Our
Certamen teams clashed in an epic battle of smarts
and speed; our Upper Level team made it to
semifinals and earned 5th place. Perhaps most
impressive of all, we are proud to say that our
very own Grant Bruner was elected as the 2018-2019
OJCL president!
