2024 NJCL Convention Recap

You know what time it is … It ’ s big , it ’ s back , it ’ s better than ever , it ’ s your NJCL 2024 RECAP !!!! Starting off with a little roll call : the OJCL had a fantastic showing of 25 JCLers , 4 SCL , 10 Sponsors , and 1 chaperone at NJCL 2024 at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville ! Despite average temperatures of 95 degrees and scattered thunderstorms , the fun persevered . OJCLers showed up and showed out for all four days of spirit and claimed first place all around for medium states ! Highlights included Dress-to-impress inspired “ chants ” during silent spirit and a Batman theme on day 1 . The glorious prizes ( an inflatable drum and two walkable dog balloons !!!) will most definitely be making an appearance at state convention . Continuing the thread of OJCL excellence , Selima Aousheva was awarded the Convention Registration Award at GA1 for her incredible academic performance on state contests and tests .
Although reviews of the cafeteria food were low to middling , the seemingly endless flow of Hereshey ’ s ice cream kept the JCL afloat for a hectic five days . That and a slew of energy drinks supplied out of various JCL dorm rooms . Fueled by this michelin-star sustenance and no small amount of talent , our very own 2 VP Hana Conte was a finalist in That ’ s Entertainment ! and stunned the crowd with her performance of Lindsay Mendez ’ s Lost in the Brass . The OJCL also footed a phenomenal pickleball team whose otherwise sure-victory was sadly snubbed by lightning strikes . Unfortunately , we had a one-man Certamen team this year . Fortunately , that man was your fabulous OJCL secretary , Carter Riordan ; that being said , he would love some teammates ! Let ’ s show up and show out for Certamen next year , everyone !
The final day of convention saw our very own Phillip Towbin elected to the 2024-2025 board as Historian ! A HUGE congratulations to Phillip as he takes on a new and muchdeserved role in the JCL . He will be sorely missed on the OJCL board , but we can ’ t wait to see everything he and the NJCL board have in store for us next year . Speaking of : the final GA closed out with a video that extended the same invitation that I now extend to you all , dear readers . If you liked what you read in this article , PLEASE join us at Miami University for NJCL 2025 ! I had a blast in Knoxville and can ’ t wait to have even more fun at Miami next year .
