Columbus Academy
Taylor McGowan, OJCL Editor
We’re thrilled to say that th
at Academy’s Latin
Club is more active than it
has ever been before! For th
e
first time in recent memor
y, we have formal club
officers — Taylor McGowan
(co-consul), Zach Zhou (co-
consul), and Marcus Grewal
(quaestor) — and have been
meeting at least once a we
ek, with greater attendance
than in prior years.
So far, we have successfully
hosted an activity at
our school’s Club Fair, as we
ll as at the Charlie David
Dinner (a school event wher
e clubs can set up booths to
promote themselves and pr
ovide entertainment for
children). At the former, we
taught kids how to play
Achilles’ Heel Tag, a game
in which participants tie
balloons to their ankles an
d compete to pop each
other’s balloons with their
feet. The game was hugely
popular — so much so that
we actually ran out of
balloons before the fair en
ded!
At the Charlie David Dinner
, we set up a
“labyrinth” of tables, chairs
, and cones in our school
gym; young children could
go through the maze on tin
y
scooters. When they rounde
d the first bend, they
encountered the minotaur
— i.e. Marcus, dressed in a
rubber bull mask and furr
y pants — and had to dodg
e
him in order to reach the fin
ish.
Our club also participated
in Make A Difference
Day by volunteering at Pum
pkinpalooza, where we
helped run booths and gam
es at a family fair designed
to raise money for Childre
n’s Hospital.
Two members of our club
hold positions on the
OJCL Executive Board: Mar
cus Grewal (Central
Gubernator) and Taylor M
cGowan (Editor).
Upcoming events include FA
LL FORUM, which we
are delighted to be hosting
for the second year in a row
!
