Summit Patrick Casanas The NJCL convention at Tr oy University was so much fun and Summit had a great sh owing there. Our club was ab le to rake in the money at the ag ora by selling our nationally recognized wristbands and Ohio Junior Classical Leag ue lanyards. Many students di d well on the various tests and other contests there, receiving m any awards for projects, se rvice, and testing. The highlight of th e convention is when our ow n Joseph Delamerced, the OJCL Pres ident, carried a lit torch on the stage. We started of f the school ye ar with the appointment of new executive board. We ha our ve 3 new freshmen on our ex ec utive board: Matthew Casanas as Secretar y, Elizabeth Fahr m eie r as Publicity Coordinator, and Erin Devine as Co-Editor. Se ni or Patrick Casanas was appo inted as club President. Ou r first event we had to plan for was our school club fair. Our plan wa s to lure unsuspecting students with our fresh, deliciously bake d Busken cookies, which turned out to be very successful! We we re able to get many members to sign up and grow our club! We ar e currently planning many fu n events for our members to participate in. For October, back by popu lar demand, we will be hosti our famous Latin movie ni ng ght (with pizza!), a picnic (ev en m ore food!), and some awesome opportunities for our JCLe rs to give back to the community thro ugh service. With this upco m in g year in particular, we will be fea turing significant outreach at Pregnancy Center East, wh ere we will be folding baby clothes and organizing other vario us supplies. Also, since ever ybody loves animals, SummitJCL plans on working with the Cincinnati Zoo to help restore various areas and helping bats, bird s, and honeybees throughout the year. At the first local certamen of the year at Moeller High School, Summit had a grea t showing, having winners for both the novice and advanced levels and showing great represen tation in all levels. We are looking fo rward to having another gr eat year! 35
