OJCL Election Guide A Comprehensive Guide To OJCL Elections | Page 6
2nd Vice President
What are your duties?
"The duties of this office are to run graphic art contests, meaning that
you will answer questions from delegates, order the awards for
convention, and run service. Running service involves coordinating
with the Gubernators to ensure that their local service events run
smoothly and organizing service at convention and Fall Forum
(normally card making)." - Ali Winter
What campaign tips would you offer?
"I did not campaign for this position, though I have campaigned for
several others, and my advice for campaigning is to talk to people
and be genuine. Do not propose ideas because they sound good, think
of ways that you can maintain/improve the OJCL and make sure that
you believe in your platform. Individual campaigning is often the
most effective because people get a chance to know you. It is also
important to talk about why 2nd VP appeals to you in particular.
Make sure to talk about your community service involvement and
passion for giving back. Above all, be kind!"
Wearing formal clothing throughout convention leaves a good
impression and makes you seem more professional!
Secretary
What are your duties?
"Being Secretary is all about being organized. Taking minutes,
creating the convention program, running the Remind at Nationals -
my duties entail being on top of necessary information and relaying
them efficiently and effectively. As a result, an intimate knowledge of
various editing software, such as Word and PowerPoint, are very
important." - Alan Zhang
What campaign tips would you offer?
"As for campaigning, I think that it’s pretty hard to run based on
qualifications alone. The most important part for me is the efficacy of
your ideas to increase the level of communication in the OJCL. There
are still some issues that I haven’t been able to address, and it would
be nice to see them solved. If you’re curious about the specifics of
these, you’re always free to contact me. Good luck!"
Alan soon approaches the white board to explain the organization of
his sock drawer, which is very on point.
