OJCL Election Guide A Comprehensive Guide To OJCL Elections | Page 7

Treasurer What are your duties? "The office of Treasurer seems like a very economic position at first glance, but there is so much more to it. In addition to managing Agora at both state and national conventions, the Treasurer needs to plan spirit packages for the NJCL convention and the spirit themes for the OJCL convention. This is also a position where you need to hold on to many materials, including General Assembly signs, the cash box, and leftover spirit materials." - Maggie Ridgeway What campaign tips would you offer? "The most important thing to keep in mind when running for OJCL Treasurer is that you should be creative! Even if you don’t have a whole lot of experience, having good ideas for spirit and Agora merchandise on all levels will help you greatly. It would help if you also had your platform and campaign planned so everybody knows why they should vote for you." Getting people to walk around with campaign posters can help spread your name among all of the delegates! Parliamentarian What are your duties? "One of first duties the Parli fulfills is the appointments of the rest of the board and making sure that runs smoothly. The Parli then serves as a voting delegate at national convention and runs national voting caucus. Running elections is the final "event" the Parli is in charge of. Throughout the year, the Parli proposes amendments to the constitution and does whatever they can to make elections easier and better for the rest of the delegate, like making this guide for example." - Krish Gupta What campaign tips would you offer? "Experience is incredibly important for the office of Parliamentarian because of the nature of the duties you have to fulfill, such as running all of the election events and running a Voting Caucus at national convention. Additionally, because you will be running a lot of events, public speaking and presence is important for the Parli so make sure you can articulate your ideas properly and your speeches are rehearsed and buttery smooth! For ideas, if you find necessary amendments then certainly mention those, but it isn't necessary to come with an amendment. It is more important that you talk about how you will fulfill the other duties of the Parli like running the appointment process, elections, and voting caucus. You should disperse your ideas how you see fit. A pamphlet with all my ideas was great for me but some people prefer walking around with candy and talking to delegates. I'd say that you should do whatever makes you more confident! If you look closely at this picture, you may notice that I am preparing to blink in the middle of giving my answer.
