OJCL Election Guide A Comprehensive Guide To OJCL Elections | Page 11
The Final Step:
The Appointed
Board
The Process
Immediately following convention, the new Parli will put a link on
the OJCL website to a form very similar to the pre-file form, but for
the appointed positions. Instead of an election to determine who is
elected, the new elected board and previous appointed board will
simply vote on the applicants based on the submitted forms, and the
board members will be appointed.
Historian
What are your duties?
"The job is basically to take photos and create a scrapbook. Try to go
to every OJCL event and contact people across the state to get photos
from all certamina, MADDs, and any other JCL events across the
state. This job offers a lot of opportunities to meet new people and is
very relaxed compared to other board spots." - Alex Grass
Running for office isn't for everybody.
Neither are all the positions. There are
also 5 appointed positions that are
filled by application. This is a quick
guide to the process and some tips. If
you have more questions, email me at

Editor
What are your duties?
"The duty of the editor is to make the Torch and submit it to the NJCL
contest. As the editor, you will make three editions of the Torch, and
judge the OJCL publications contest. So, you will ask for and compile
together articles from various OJCLers." - Hannah Shane
What applications tips would you offer?
"The most important part of the application is the example page of
your publication, so make sure you make a good one. Experience with
Joomag is also really important - but if you don't have experience,
you can make publications in other programs and upload them to
Joomag. If you can edit the publication at your school as well, that
experience will help even more."
What applications tips would you offer?
"For the application, less is more. The application process will be
shortened into some notes, so filler is irrelevant. Make sure to put
down all relevant info because you never know what’ll make the
difference."
Gubernators
What are your duties?
"The primary role of the north gubernator is to plan out the service events in the northern region and ensure that they run smoothly. In order
to plan a service event, the gubernator must plan some ideas out ahead of time and start reaching out to various organizations, asking about
the possibility of having a service event with them. If the organization says yes, then the gubernator moves into finalizing the date and time for
the event. The gubernator finally creates the flier for the service event, which includes the date, time, address, and a brief overview of the event.
If the organization says no, then the gubernator continues to think about other events and to reach out to other organizations." - Craig Bush,
North Gubernator
"The primary duty of a Gubernator is to organize service events around your region: this includes Spring Service, Make a Difference Day, and
Winter Service events. Additionally, the Gubers attend board meetings, plan the pre-nationals picnics, contribute to the Torch, and make sure
convention runs as smoothly as possible along with the rest of the board." - Bea Sull, Central Gubernator
"The main duty of South Gubernator is to organize events in the Southern Ohio area that encourage participation in the OJCL. These events go
under two categories; preparation for National Convention and service. For preparation for National Convention, there is an annual Pre-Nats
picnic that the Gubernator is responsible for planning. The Gubernator also plans service events throughout the year. There are seasonal
service events, but the main event the Gubernator must set up is South MADD (make a difference day). For all events, the Gubernator works
with the 2nd VP (for general organization), and the 1st VP (for promotion)." - Chloe Constantinides, South Gubernator
What applications tips would you offer?
"When filling out the application, it would be wise to list any leadership roles you may have. The Gubernators have to work with the 2nd Vice
President to ensure all service events run smoothly so leadership is key. Also, consider listing some of the various service events you have
participated in. By attending service events, you demonstrate that you are willing to help out within your community. The role of a gubernator
is rewarding, and I want to encourage everyone to apply. By planning the service, you are making a change in a community, which is rewarding
for everyone." - Craig Bush, North Gubernator
"When filling out your application, keep in mind that the role of Gubernator centers around planning service events as well as communicating
with the clubs, sponsors, and JCLers of your region, so the most relevant experiences you put on your application might revolve around
organizing service and other events for your club as well as anything that shows your communication skills." - Bea Sull, Central Gubernator
"Before writing my application, I read point 5.7 in the OJCL Bylaws and read the service page on the OJCL website to increase my
understanding of the position. If you have any further questions, you can contact previous Gubers. When filling out the application, I mostly
included leadership positions that involved service and events I previously organized. You should also include and clearly state goals you want
to accomplish in office." - Chloe Constantinides, South Gubernator
