OJCL Election Guide A Comprehensive Guide To OJCL Elections | Page 10
Final Tips and
State of
Emergency
Final Tips
1. Wear formal attire while campaigning and especially
during Nom Com, GA II, and Meet the Candidates!
2. Be active at Convention! Make your presence known!
3. Put effort into campaign materials. A well put
together poster is helpful, a poorly constructed one
can be very disadvantageous
4. Communicate with delegates individually
5. Have confidence in yourself! Putting yourself out
there like this is already an amazing feat to
accomplish!
6. Have fun! (or at least fake it)!
State of Emergency
State-of-Emergency and pre-file candidates mostly
follow the same election process. The key difference
between the two is how you enter the election.
1. When fewer than two candidates pre-file for a specific
office, the office enters a State of Emergency
2. The Parliamentarian will announce all States of
Emergency during the first General Assembly
3. In that case, delegates from chapters which already
have two delegates running can run. Delegates can
also run if the office they are running for is currently
held by someone from their Chapter
4. State of Emergency candidates are required to give a
speech a Nom Com, no matter how many there are
State of Emergency is a sort of high risk, high reward
process because of the need for quickly writing up
speeches and designing campaign materials. However,
State of Emergency candidates have been known to win
in many cases, so don’t shy away from putting yourself
out there!
