Takoradi ’ s latest

Chinese restaurant , the Han Palace , opened recently in Beach Road and Oilcity magazine decided we should check it out on behalf of our loyal readers .
We discovered that one of the great things about Chinese food is that it is designed to be shared . For those of us who often find ourselves eyeing up the food on our dining companions ’ plates this has great appeal !
The new restaurant boasts Lazy Susans on some of its larger tables so if you come as part of a group this is the ideal way to share dishes between you . Essentially the Lazy Susan ( noone ’ s sure where the name originally came from but they feature in most Chinese restaurants ) is a glass turntable which sits on the dining table . The dishes of food are placed upon it and when you want to try something which is out of your reach you simply turn the Lazy Susan until the dish arrives in front of you . Ettiquette is that when one person is turning the glass no one else should serve themselves lest messy accidents occur .

There are three partners in the new enterprise . The General Manager is Gary Leung who has worked extensively in Chinese restaurants in West Africa including the highly rated Saipan in Lagos . Stephen Shum first arrived in Takoradi in 1984 and owns the house where Han Palace is located . He says back then most socializing was via house parties . “ The French guys would bring food from Europe and we ’ d end up at their places and for Chinese food everybody would come to
