OXYGEN THERAPY FOR O
Analee Matthews explores the health benefits of the hyperbaric chamber.
ltitude Training Australia exists to
bring state-of-the-art elite sports
training technology to benefit everyday
aspiring Australians. From Olympians to
Octogenarians (older folk) and everyone
in between, training at altitude can help
improve sports and event performance,
weight loss, injury rehabilitation,
senior’s
fitness
and
altitude
acclimatisation. No matter what your
fitness goal, motivation or ability level,
oxygen therapy can help you raise your
game.
A
Altitude Gym at the Manly Leagues Club
in Sydney (NSW) offers a comprehensive
range of affordable and fully supervised
training programs, which are run by fully
accredited altitude trainers. There are
six programs to choose from and because
everyone tolerates altitude differently,
there are different levels within the
programs, from basic to advanced.
1. Pre-Acclimitisation
Lower oxygen at higher altitude and lack
of acclimatisation can lead to acute
mountain sickness (AMS), which
compromise any skiing, trekking or
climbing holiday. Acute AMS can strike
as low as 2,000m (many ski fields are
up to 4,000m). While AMS affects
people in different ways, altitude
training can help reduce or buffer
against the symptoms of AMS and
reduce the time you need to spend
acclimatising on site. You will also arrive
fitter, stronger and better equipped to
deal with the rigours of activity at
altitude.Physical results include:
•
•
•
more efficient work out than at sea
level (up to 25 per cent)
decreased resting heart rate and
blood pressure
less effort for same calorie burn.
2. Sports Performance 3. Race / Event Preparation
This is one way to legally gain an unfair
competitive advantage by getting fitter,
faster, and by attaining more power,
more speed, more strength, and more
endurance. Using altitude training
concepts such as repeat sprint hypoxia,
has been of immense benefit to sporting
teams the world-over including our very
own NRL and AFL teams. The accredited
altitude trainers at Altitude Gym work
with you to develop training protocols to
raise your game. Team packages and
group sessions are also available. Altitude training has become an
accepted part of the training regime for
marathon runners, triathletes and
cyclists around the world with over 80
per cent of Olympians training at
altitude. Altitude training can be used
to maintain your fitness from weekend
to weekend, or build fitness in one of
our group training session at 4,000m
such as Alti-sprints or Sufferfest. You
can bring your own bike or ride/run a
virtual route. Our accredited altitude
trainers can help you develop specific
training programs for your next event to
ensure that you have every chance to
smash your personal best and your
opponents. Physical results include:
