OH! Magazine - Australian Version September 2013 (Australian Version) | Page 3

EDITOR’S WELCOME OH, now most of you wouldn’t know this, but I stem from an interesting background. I was orphaned in the Vietnam War and adopted to an awesome family here in Oz. Being the youngest, only daughter, in a family of red haired boys – you can bet I was spoiled from the moment I arrived! I have no complaints about that, of course! Now, despite the details of my beginnings being 100 per cent sketchy – to the point that I don’t even know for sure if my birthdate is accurate – I feel like I have been able to set a good example for my daughter (who, out of interest, is the only genetic relative I’ve ever known – how cool is that?), of what you can achieve when you leave your past behind and just get on with creating a future. Having a health goal is kind of similar. You can whinge and moan about how many times you’ve tried previously to kick the ciggies, lose that flab or stack on the kegs and, by all means, you can let those unsuccessful attempts restrict your future success. OR, you can consciously tell yourself that all those experiences – especially the most challenging ones – are the reason you can achieve a different result this time around. Make the decision to stop dwelling on what has happened in the past, commit to letting everything be ‘as it is’, and you instantly set yourself up to create a more successful future. Give it a go. And let me know what happens. Good luck!
