Williams has a proud history at the British Grand Prix , with Clay Regazzoni ’ s 1979 debut victory for the team followed by nine others achieved either here at Silverstone or at Brands Hatch and shared between Alan Jones , Nigel Mansell , Alan Prost , Damon Hill and Jacques Villeneuve .
The Grove team has had a challenging time in recent seasons , but under US owners Dorilton the pieces are starting to fall into place . Former Mercedes man James Vowles took over the reins at the start of 2023 , and he has proved to be an inspiring leader as he tried to get the team up to speed on and off the track . Attracting F1 ® veteran Pat Fry as technical boss has been a key move .
Eighth here last year , Alex Albon has enjoyed another good season , logging the team ’ s first points of the season with ninth in Monaco . Significantly , the FW46 has proved competitive on a wider range of tracks than its predecessor , which was mostly noted for its straight-line pace .
It has been a difficult second year for Logan Sargeant , who has shown signs of progress but has still made mistakes while competing under the pressure of knowing that there has been a queue of drivers waiting to take his seat .

The winter saw a major change at Haas as its talismanic team principal and Netflix star Guenther Steiner parted company with the US-owned outfit , to be replaced by Ayao Komatsu . The new boss has brought more of an engineering focus , and has thus far impressed with the way he has settled into the role with his straightforward approach .
Last year the cars were occasionally quick enough to make Q3 , but invariably slipped back in the races due to tyre issues . Addressing that issue was a main focus for 2024 , and it has largely been successful .
Nico Hülkenberg has been particularly competitive , regularly getting into Q3 and scoring points in three of the first five races , although frustratingly the future Sauber driver has also been a regular in 11th place . Kevin Magnussen has had a more difficult time , but the Dane did log a point in Melbourne .
As a bonus for British fans , Saudi Arabian Grand Prix star Oliver Bearman will gain more track mileage for the team when he steps into the car for FP1 .
