RACE PREVIEW
Aston Martin Aramco F1 ® Team
A STO N MARTIN
Like several other entrants on the grid , Aston Martin has competed under a variety of identities over the years , but the curious thing is that ‘ Team Silverstone ’ has rarely enjoyed much luck at its home race , despite being based literally over the road from the main gate .
Indeed , the stand-out result from the team ’ s history was as Jordan in 1999 , when Heinz-Harald Frentzen finished fourth and Damon Hill fifth . Even last year , when Fernando Alonso was a regular on the podium , the Spaniard could only manage seventh place here .
That spectacular 2023 season was always going to be difficult for the team to follow , and so it has proved , with the AMR24 not as consistently competitive as its impressive predecessor .
However , Alonso – a winner at Silverstone in both 2006 and 2011 – has been his usual tenacious self , seemingly outperforming the car on occasions , especially in qualifying .
Races have been tougher and , while last year he could aim for podiums , this season reaching the top six is a major achievement for Aston Martin . Indeed in Spain Alonso suggested that Silverstone will be the last of a ‘ painful ’ run of races as the team awaits its next batch of upgrades .
This year Lance Stroll has generally been closer to his veteran team mate , and the Canadian has enjoyed a few decent runs into the points , including a sixth in Australia .
