Formula 2 ™ is the official F1 ® feeder series and provides the racing arena
for young talent making their way to the pinnacle of motorsport . A single-make series , all teams use identical turbocharged V6 Dallara cars

Since the start of the series in 2005 , when it was known as GP2 , numerous Champions have made their way to F1 ®. Names such as Pierre Gasly , Nico Hülkenberg , Romain Grosjean and one Sir Lewis Hamilton , while several other non-Champions have also made the jump from the talent ladder one rung down . One still in the top flight of the sport is Sergio Pérez .
The class was renamed FIA Formula 2™ for the 2017 season , and since then Champions Charles Leclerc , George Russell and Oscar Piastri have made F1 ® GRANDS PRIX their home . The F2™Championship also prepared Lando Norris , Yuki Tsunoda , Zhou Guanyu , Alex Albon and Logan Sergeant for their F1 ® debuts . Add to them the likes of Liam Lawson and Oliver Bearman who have seamlessly stepped into the F1 ® cockpit when called upon to do so .
Mick Schumacher , Felipe Drugovich and Théo Pourchaire , the 2020 , 2022 and 2023 Champions , are reserve drivers for Mercedes , Aston-Martin and the Sauber F1 ® team , respectively .
TEAMS
There are 11 teams each with 2 drivers . The French ART Grand Prix and Italian PREMA Racing teams have taken the lion ’ s share of Drivers ’ titles , and it is the former that won the Teams and Driver ’ s Championships last year with Théo Pourchaire .
Variety is often the spice of F2™ and so far this year has been no exception with some 12 different drivers , from 10 different teams , representing 8 nationalities taking victories at the first 7 rounds ! And it is not just the usual powerhouse countries of motor sport supplying that talent . Step forward 2024 race winners Franco Colapinto from Argentina , Roman Staněk from the Czech Republic , and Danish driver and 2021 Formula 3 Champion Dennis Hauger . Plus there is Zane Maloney from Barbados who is now also the Kick Sauber F1 ® team reserve driver .
