Nurturing Future Champions
The British Racing Drivers ’ Club ( BRDC ) has focused on developing the most promising young British drivers across all classes of racing for 16 straight years through its BRDC SuperStars programme , which sits alongside the Club ’ s introductory Young Driver programme , the BRDC Rising Stars
Founded in 2008 , a host of talented young drivers from single seaters to touring cars and endurance racing have been selected to be part of the programme , benefitting from the unique experience and guidance the scheme has to offer , both from the BRDC ’ s Members themselves , as well as tailored training , development , and fitness programmes . Former BRDC SuperStars have gone on to race in Formula 1 ®, at Le Mans , and earned factory drives .
Andy Meyrick , BRDC SuperStars Programme Director , says ‘ The BRDC SuperStars programme has helped so many drivers to become professional racers over the past 15 years . You only need to look at F1 ® to see George , Lando and Alex all performing to see the calibre of drivers we ’ re helping to develop ’.
This weekend an impressive seven of the 13 SuperStars will be racing on track , with Ollie Bearman and Zak O ’ Sullivan in Formula 2™ , Luke Browning , Arvid Lindblad , Callum Voisin , and Joseph Loake in F3™ , and last but by no means least , Harry King in the Porsche Supercup .
The current Aston Martin Autosport BRDC Young Driver of the Year Award winner , Joseph scored his maiden F3™ points at Monaco , with reigning GB3 Championship titleholder Callum his teammate at Rodin Motorsport .
Meanwhile , both Luke and Arvid scored victories to open the season in Bahrain . Arvid only made his car racing debut at the end of 2022 in Italian F4 and dominated F4 at the Macau Grand Prix last year , claiming pole , and winning the qualifying and main race . Luke also enjoyed dominant success in Macau in the F3™ races , winning both .
In F2™ , Zak took his first victory of 2024 on the streets of Monaco . It has been a tough year for Ollie so far , though he performed brilliantly in Saudi Arabia as he filled in at short notice for Carlos Sainz at Scuderia Ferrari , becoming the youngest British driver in F1 ®, the youngest Ferrari F1 driver , the first current BRDC SuperStar to race in Formula 1 ®, and secured an amazing seventh place finish in the Grand Prix .
Harry opened his 2024 Porsche Supercup campaign with back-to-back podiums as he pushes for the title this year . He is once again completing dual campaigns with the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland , where he has two wins at the time of writing , and he also took Pro-Am victory with his teammates at the Bathurst 12 Hour .
This year those seven are joined as BRDC SuperStars by Freddie Slater ( Italian F4 ), Matthew Rees ( Porsche Carrera Cup GB ), Adam Smalley ( British GT & GT World Challenge Europe ), Tom Gamble ( British GT & GT World Challenge Europe ), Louis Foster ( Indy NXT ), and Seb Priaulx ( IMSA SportsCar Championship ). Several will be on site this weekend supporting their colleagues and appearing on the Main Stage , so keep your eyes open and you might see one of the British stars of the future . •
