This will also be a massive weekend for Sam Lowes , still seeking a maiden podium in front of his home fans at a Grand Prix event . The weekend has recently taken on greater significance for Lowes – this will be his last British GP before he moves to the WorldSBK class in 2024 . Speaking of his decision to switch classes next year , Lowes recently explained , “ The main reason is that I ' ve been a long time in Moto2 , I felt some weekends I was not getting . the most out of myself because of the [ reduced ] track time and the way the schedule is . After winning at Jerez and the way I felt there , still riding well on my good days , still winning Grand Prix . So at that point , I made a decision I wanted to go to Superbike .” While his campaign has been lacking in consistency so far , Lowes has racked up two pole positions as well as a dominant triumph at the Spanish GP in May . He also had the speed to win at both Le Mans and Mugello , but crashes cost him . “ I can do well this year and win races . When you win races , you can turn it around ,” he said . And despite knowing that he will be leaving Moto2 at the end of November – a class where he has nine years of experience , Lowes is fully focussed on ending the season well . “ We still have 12 races to go . I have some goals I want to achieve and some stats I want to my name . “ Rory Skinner will be another home hero competing in Moto2 . The Scot made his GP debut as a wildcard at this event a year ago , and has since stepped into the category full-time . It ’ s been a challenging season so far , complicated by an injury sustained at Mugello , where he fractured the talus bone in his right foot . Yet the 21-year old has shown flashes of potential in the five races he has taken part in so far , scoring a solid top 20 finish at May ’ s Spanish GP . He will be keen to repeat that feat this weekend .
