LOCAL COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT Officeworks Mildura attends Clontarf’s 2018 Murray Employment Forum Grea k t guys! wor On Wednesday 29 August, Isabelle Grazan (BSIS) from Officeworks Mildura (Vic) attended Clontarf’s 2018 Murray Employment Forum. The event was held at Euston Bowling and Recreation Club (NSW), about 140km away from Mildura. Over 35 indigenous students of the Clontarf Academy attended the conference. The students came from a range of regional areas such as Mildura, Robinvale and Swan Hill, to name a few. Approximately seven businesses were involved in the event, including Bunnings, Kmart, MDAS, local councils, and Educational Groups with the aim to educate year 10 to 12 students on how different businesses operate, how to find employment or further education and how to leverage your first job to further your professional career. While Bunnings and Kmart provided Human Resource personnel from their head offices 36 to attend, we offered a point of difference, to show the attendees a story, and what is possible with Officeworks. Isabelle has a great career story to share as she started as a BTS casual in her first job while still in school, and has since progressed to permanent part-time and is now in the BSIS role. The boys rotated between tables in groups of three to five, with approximately seven minutes per group. Isabelle explained a little about Officeworks and what makes it a great place to work, her employment and ‘career so far’-story. She answered any specific questions that the students had with a wide range of reactions and levels of interest displayed by the students. Overall, it was a very positive community event and hopefully it will encourage the students to find employment with the insights from Isabelle’s experience at Officeworks Mildura.
