Answering for
a good cause
During May, the Officeworks
Adelaide Street (Qld) and
Woolloongabba (Qld) teams
gathered together to take part
in a trivia night. Team Members
took part in trivia questions,
raffles and a ‘best dressed’
competition, to help raise
money for Narbethong Special
Needs School.
Due to the local community
contributions made,
Officeworks was a major
sponsor for the night. Those
who participated described
the event as competitive, fun
and full of laughs.
North Rocks Internal Business team
partners with Royal Institute for
Deaf and Blind Children
On Wednesday 6 September
the Business Specialist Internal
team based in North Rocks
(NSW) had the opportunity
to volunteer at Royal Institute
for Deaf and Blind Children
(RIDBC). RIDBC is Australia’s
largest non-government
provider of therapy,
education and diagnostic
services for people with
hearing or vision loss, assisting
thousands of children a year.
Kylie Keenan (Business
Specialist - Internal) and Deb
Ayrey (Business Specialist -
Internal) have taken the lead
in coordinating the Internal
Business team’s community
involvement for the next 12
months and as the RIDBC
is a locally based centre,
approached them to see
how the team could provide
assistance.
On the day the team helped
with their Alice Betteridge
School, Numeracy & Literacy
Open Day. Alice Betteridge
School is for children who
are deaf, blind or have
vision loss, as well as a level
of intellectual and physical
disability. They support
students between 4 and
18 years of age with a
NSW Board of Studies
curriculum that has been
adapted to suit each
student’s specific needs.
The open day is a wonderful
opportunity for the students
to showcase to their families
what they have been
learning during the term. Kylie
said “The theme this term
was numeracy & literacy and
the classes created stations
around this theme which we
as volunteers were able to
assist with. We also we able
to participate in the school
assembly and help prepare
and cook their morning tea
and lunch for the students
and their families.”
The open day was a great
opportunity for our team
to engage with the life
changing work RIDBC are
doing. All of the volunteering
team members found the
day to be very rewarding and
although each had different
tasks and were working
with different people they
all enjoyed being able to
help some truly remarkable
children show of their skills
and knowledge.
