Local Community Involvement Officeworks Coffs Harbour (NSW) strengthen their ties with the community In September, Officeworks Coffs Harbour (NSW) was one of many stores affected by a fire in its centre, resulting in the temporary closing down of the store. When not cleaning, the Coffs Harbour team took the opportunity to spend time in their local community and wave the Officeworks flag through supporting, volunteering and raising funds for local community groups. Through Bunnings, the team hosted six BBQs supporting a range community groups: Naranga Public School, Coffs Coast Autism, Cando Cancer Trust, Valley Preschool at Upper Orara, Nana Glen Public School and Karangi Public School. The Bunnings team ‘were a home away from home and really looked after [the team]’. A few team members also volunteered with the SES and made blood donations to the Red Cross Blood Service. Others volunteered with our national partner, The Smith Family by tagging clothes from collection bins to sell and raise funds. Team members also got out in the water supporting the Disabled Surfers Association and helped with Bandana Day for Canteen. They spent a lot of time building their relationship with Naranga Public School. Volunteering at the school’s fete, they offered balloon art, arm casting and created over 150 balloon art animals. The team raised additional funds for the school by requesting a gold coin donation. They also volunteered in their school canteen and have agreed to return to assist with some creek regeneration on their school boundary. In times of adversity, comes opportunity. Coffs Harbour and their involvement within their local community during this time was certainly the light that came out of such a difficult time for Officeworks. ‘It gave the team a purpose and helped with the stressful times,’ said Sindy Tate (Coordinator). 33
