1. Know when you are going to do it.
By penciling it in your planner or typing it in a reminder app, you are able to look forward to it. The more consistent you run the more your body will adapt and grow stronger. You will get used to running three or four times a week and it will become easier.
2. Don't be so hard on yourself.
Start with small, acheieveable goals and grow them. When you begin running at a comfortable pace and breathe correctly running will be a fun experience. By slowing down you can alleviate pain and prevent further pain.
3. Do more than just run.
Mix in fun workouts and take risks! You never know what you may love unless you try it. It can become boring and stagnant if you only ever run. Try mixing in other types of cardio for a more exhilirating workout!
4. Tag along with a friend!
Running with a friend or two can provide encouragement and make running seem easier when it seems daunting. Along with encouragement, friends help provide accountability.
5. Set goals.
By far the most likely to get you up and running is the idea of where you want to go. As Eleanor Roosevelt said, "You must do the thing you think you cannot do."
Running is a universal language. However, for some it is an easy, fun part of the day and others it may seem scary and not exciting. Whether you do it everyday or are just learning, there is always room to grow and begin to love it with these simple steps.
