This time, however, the actors – who have three Oscar nominations for serious acting roles between them – play it as straight as possible in True Story. Based on – yes, you guessed it – a true story, this is an exploration of the mind of Christian Longo (Franco), who ended up on the FBI’s ‘ten most wanted’ list after killing his family. While on the run, he impersonated the disgraced New York Times journalist Michael Finkel (Hill), then contacted Finkel after his capture. Fascinated, Finkel strikes up an uneasy partnership with the murderer as he tries to understand why the killer was impersonating him, and whether he really did commit the crime of which he stands accused. Get ready for intense! Based on Finkel’s memoir, True Story co-stars Felicity Jones and opens on 24 July.
