When a group of medical students attempts to play God,
it’s not long before they’re paying the terrifying price...
DIRECTOR Niels Arden Oplev
starring Nina Dobrev, Ellen Page,
James Norton, kiefer sutherland
A sequel rather than
a remake of the
now-classic 1990
horror flick (which starred
Kiefer Sutherland, Julia
Roberts, William Baldwin and
Kevin Bacon), Flatliners (2017)
sees a new batch of medical
students attempting the same
experiment as the ’90s crew:
29
SEP
namely, stopping their hearts
for a short period of time
then restarting them again.
Playing God always, always,
always backfires in the movies,
though, and that’s exactly
what happens here. Following
an initial period of euphoria,
Ellen Page (Juno) and her
friends must face the horrifying
consequences of journeying to
the other side – with horrifying
being the operative word!

Phew!
Hasbro’s My Little
Pony toyline has been
around since 1982,
and yet these colourful small
horses are as popular now
as they were 35 years ago
– if not more so. In fact, here’s
a fun titbit for you: in 2015,
the brand grossed more than
$1 billion annually in retail
sales, up from $600 million
in 2013. That’s a phenomenal
increase by any stretch of the
imagination and goes someway
to explaining how the
producers of this film could
afford such an incredible vocal
cast. Seriously, the line-up
includes Emily Blunt, Kristin
Chenoweth, Liev Schreiber,
Taye Diggs, Uzo Aduba
and Zoe Saldana – wow!
A magical animated
adventure filled with colour
and songs, My Little Pony:
The Movie introduces us
to a different breed of hero.
With an evil force threatening
the land of Equestria (do
you see what they did there?),
Twilight Sparkle and her
pals must venture far beyond
their h ome, where new
friends and foes await.
