Silence Men on a Mission! After a threeyear hiatus, Martin Scorsese follows up his 1980s exposé The Wolf of Wall Street with this epic historical drama. Set in the 17th century, it stars Andrew Garfield and Adam Driver as devout Jesuit priests. These brave men of the cloth face violence and persecution when they travel to Japan to spread the word of the Lord and search for their missing mentor (Liam Neeson). Based on the novel of the same name by Japanese author Shûsaku Endô, Scorsese has been working on this so-called “passion project” since 1991. Twenty-six years later Silence is finally reaching cinema screens and those in the know are touting it as a major Academy Award contender. With that director and those stars, it stands to reason that this one isn’t going to go quietly into the night. 1 JAN Watch the trailer T2: Trainspotting Lean and mean but are they clean? It’s time to choose life all over again this January as drug addicts Renton, Begbie, Sick Boy and Spud burst back onto our screens! Loosely based on the Irvine Welsh novel, Porno, this follow-up to the now classic Trainspotting is set 20 years after the first film (which – believe it or not – was released exactly 20 years ago) and sees Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire) back in the director’s chair. Also returning are original cast members Ewan McGregor (The Impossible), Ewen 27 JAN Bremner (Great Expectations), Jonny Lee Miller (Dark Shadows) and Robert Carlyle (28 Weeks Later). The plot is being kept largely under wraps but author Welsh (who stars in the film as Mikey Forrester) did reveal the following during a candid interview with Vice Magazine: “The main element of the story is basically Renton, Begbie, Sick Boy and Spud getting back together again, and it tells the story of them getting involved in the vice industry in a very innovative way.” Welcome backs, boys – we’ve missed you! • Eighties icons Mel Gibson and Sean Penn have been cast in period drama The Professor and the Madman, due in 2017 odeon.co.uk 7 PHOTO: © 2016 Paramount Pictures PHOTO: © 2016 Sony Pictures Releasing (UK) Older – but definitely not wiser!
