Free State of Jones
The Girl with
All the Gifts
A soldier who became an outlaw...
an outlaw who became a leader!
This epic historical drama follows the
real-life exploits of Newton Knight,
9
SEPT
a Southern farmer who launched
an armed rebellion against the Confederacy
during America’s Civil War (1861 to 1865).
Joining forces with other small farmers
and local slaves, Knight attempts to form
a ‘Free State of Jones’ in the area around Jones
County, Mississippi, making him public enemy
number one with the Confederate army.
With the excellent Matthew McConaughey
playing Knight, this is a fascinating look at a
tumultuous period in American history when the
country was at war with itself. And how’s this for
a fact? Extra Christopher David McKnight is an
actual descendent of the real-life Knight. Newt
was his third great grandfather. Cool or what?
She has the power to save the world...
Adapted from the novel by M.R. Carey,
this absorbing horror is set in a dystopian
future where mankind has been largely
wiped out (thanks to a potent fungal infection).
The infected, referred to as “hungries”, lose all
mental capabilities and enjoy feasting on the
flesh of humans. They are – in essence – zombies.
The survivors, meanwhile, live in heavily guarded
areas, where, overseen by head scientist Caroline
Caldwell (Glenn Close), they search, in vain, for
a cure. Caldwell is convinced that a small group
of part-“hungry”, part-human children hold the
secret to mankind’s salvation. But when she
selects a young female for dissection, a conflicted
teacher (Gemma Arterton) finds herself
compelled to save “the girl with all the gifts”.

Deepwater Horizon
The true story behind the worst oil spill in US history
This gripping actioner
is based on the true
story of the offshore
oil rig Deepwater Horizon.
Situated in American waters,
this semi-submersible vessel
exploded in 2010, resulting in
a fireball that was visible 40
miles away. Indeed, the legal
ramifications as to who was

responsible still rumble on…
This retelling, which stars
Mark Wahlberg (Ted) and
Kate Hudson (Mother’s Day),
relates the events from the
point of view of the men and
women on the rig that day and
their loved ones waiting for
news at home. Definitely not
a film for the faint of heart!
