British director James
Kent (an established

TV veteran) follows
up his well-received World
War One drama Testament of
Youth, with another superb
historical piece, this time set
in the years directly following
the Second World War.
Based on the bestselling
novel by Rhidian Brook, the
intriguing storyline sees Keira
Knightley’s Rachel Morgan
moving to Hamburg to reunite
with her British colonel
husband Lewis (Jason Clarke),
who’s been tasked with
overseeing the rebuilding of
the decimated city. To Rachel’s
disquiet, she discovers she
will be sharing her lavish
new home with the previous
owners, handsome German
widower Stefan (Alexander
Skarsgård) and his unhappy
daughter. It’s not long before
sparks fly, but are everyone’s
intentions honourable?
Beautifully acted and
wonderfully compelling,
The Aftermath is a sumptuous
period drama with another
memorable turn from the
ever-impressive Knightley. Boasting an all-star
British cast that

Purefoy and Noel Clarke, this
ship-shape comedy (which
is based on an amazing true
story) sees 10 singing fishermen
from Cornwall signing a record
deal with cynical London
music executive Danny, who is
in the area on a stag weekend.
To everyone’s surprise, the
band is a hit, but their newfound
fame brings with it its own
set of dilemmas, especially for
Danny, who finds himself quite
liking life at a slower pace.
